Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Hits Three Million Copies in Sales

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Hits Three Million Copies in Sales

KOEI Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors series has not typically sold as well as traditional Zelda games. As it turns out though, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity for Nintendo Switch seems to have changed that. Could it be that the game is a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Wii U as well as the Switch? That seems like the likely explanation.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity launched last week on Friday and it seems like it was very successful. Past Warriors games at least on Nintendo platforms do not sell as well as say a traditionally Legend of Zelda or Fire Emblem game. But Age of Calamity may be the best selling Hyrule Warriors and Warriors game on a Nintendo platform. The game has reached three million copies with digital and psychical releases combined.

Nintendo Switch Outsold the NES At 68.30 million Units

Nintendo held its financial meeting earlier today and announced that the Switch has outsold (or rather shipped more than) the NES. The Switch was reported to have reached 68.30 million SKUs as of the end of September. The software sold 456.49 million units.

The next Nintendo console for the Switch to outsell is the Wii. It looks like it will reach passed 101.63 million in the next year and a half, assuming Nintendo does consider the upgraded Switch a next gen console next year. The Switch will likely also sell more units than the OG PlayStation, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Game Boy Advance and the PSP in the coming months.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a Prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

A neat surprise occurred today. Nintendo announced a brand new Zelda game called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. It will be set 100 years prior to the events in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will launch on November 20 for Nintendo Switch. This is likely around the time when next gen consoles from Sony launches and November 10 for Microsoft. It will be a good contender.
