Pokémon Presents 6.24.2020

Apologies for the delayed upload. Another live stream was held yesterday from The Pokémon Company. They showed another games this week called Pokémon Unite. Above is a video of my reaction of the presentation.

Nintendo Switch Reached 4.2 Million Units in the Month of March 2020

The Nintendo Switch continues to sell extremely well. During Nintendo’s last financial briefing, the company confirmed they have sold (technically shipped) 55.77 million lifetime units. In FY 2019, they shipped 21.03 million consoles. The console has not even been out for three years and has already done these numbers. It’s insane!

In March, western countries and even other countries in Asia were really getting impacted by COVID-19. Numerous countries, states, provinces, and territories shut non-essential operations down. This made it harder for gamers to get a hold of a physical version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as the Animal Crossing + Nintendo Switch bundle.

Despite the hardship, the game performed really well. The game has already reached 11.77 million copies in the month of March. As for the Switch itself, it ended up reaching sale numbers at 4.2 million during the same month. Additionally, the Switch so far is reported to have reached 20.61 million units in North America, 14.23 million in Europe, 13.4 million in Japan, and 6.95 million for other countries and territories. That means the Switch has surpassed 55 million units globally as of May. March was still a great month for Nintendo in term of software and hardware shipments.

This is Probably Why There Are Friend Codes on the Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has been using friend codes ever since the Wii launched in 2006. This was carried over to the Nintendo 3DS which released in 2011. Then when 2012 saw the release of the Wii U and this time, Nintendo did not use friend codes. However, on March 3, 2017 when Nintendo Switch came out, they went back to using friend codes. It turns out, there was a reason for doing so.

A leaked PowerPoint presentation was leaked for the Wii. In it contained a slide discussing friend codes. It seems that nintendo wanted players to have a better experience when playing with family or friends. Rather than guessing someone’s name and sending a friend request from a stranger, friend codes make those random friends requests less likely as that person would need to guess the randomly given 12 digit code. It’s probable that Nintendo wanted to have this return for the Switch.

What do you think? Do you dislike using friend codes? Let us all know!

Nintendo Switch Has Reached 52.48 Million in Sales, Outselling the Super Nintendo

Nintendo recently held their financial investors meeting for Q3 of FY 2019 on Thursday January 30, 2020. They have also confirmed the Switch has now reached 52.48 million units in sales, while its software has sold 310.65 million. The Nintendo Switch Lite has made it to 5.19 million units.

This means that the Nintendo Switch has now outsold the Super Nintendo, (Super Famicom in Japan) which sold 49.10 million consoles. As for the software, the Super Nintendo or SNES has reached 379.06 million in sales.

It’s only a matter of time before the Switch outsells the Nintendo Entertainment System, (Famicom in Japan) likely in the next six months. The NES sold 61.91 million units and 500.01 million games. Another interesting feet to this is the Switch has outsold four older Nintendo consoles, not counting the Classic systems, Virtual Boy, or the TV Color consoles from the 70s.

Additionally, Pokémon Sword & Shield combined sold 16 million copies, whereas Luigi’s Mansion 3 reached five million in sales. Upcoming 2020 games for the Switch will sure drive the console closer to outselling the NES. As for outselling the Wii which sold at least 101.63 million consoles, time will tell but it seems more and more likely as the Switch constantly is breaking sales records. It may have even outsold the Xbox ONE already.
