Square Enix, Capcom, and SEGA Have Music Performed During the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games – Opening Ceremony

Today starts the Opening Ceremony for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. During the ceremony, numerous songs from video games are performed while athletes walk across the cameras representing their country. 14 songs were played. A handful of songs were from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy, Mana, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts series, Capcom’s Monster Hunter games, and SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic Adventure 2 is the third movie in the Sonic 30th Anniversary celebration. This is the Dark Story Trailer. There is just one month until the film releases. Enjoy!

Sonic Adventure 2 released on SEGA Dreamcast in 2001. It later launched on GameCube as Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Sonic Adventure 2 also released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC. The Battle DLC is available for extra on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Steam.

Valve is introducing a new competitor to the Nintendo Switch called the Steam Deck. It is a brand new hybrid console that lets you play compatible Steam games on TV or on the go. There is even a dock (sold separately) to hold the Steam Deck while players play on the big screen. It is very powerful and allows players to access his or her Steam library so you will already have games to play at launch. Steam Deck is expected to ship in December. More details to follow.

Multiple different options are available for pre-order for the Steam Deck. Each selection has different storage that all uses a SSD (Solid State Drive). There is a 64 GB eMMC SSD Deck with a carrying case listed for $399.00 USD. (Do note that the eMMC SSD model is not as fast as other SSDs.) Another one comes with 256 GB NVMe SSD, as well as fast storage, a case, exclusive Steam perks for profiles all for $529. The most expensive model is the 512 GB NVMe SSD. It also includes faster storage, a premium glass screen, a fancy case, special Steam Profile perks, and an exclusive theme for the digital keyboard for $649.

The Best Selling Console and the Best Selling Games for June 2021 in the United States | The NPD Group

The NPD Group has released information on the best selling video game console and best selling games. Nintendo Switch was the best selling console last month in the United States but the current gen Xbox was the best selling console in dollar sales. The best selling game was Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was the number one best selling game. Mat Piscatella goes into detail.

Next is a list of the top 20 best selling games for June in the US. In order, the first 10 are Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War, Mario Golf: Super Rush, MLB: The Show 21, Scarlet Nexus, Resident Evil: Village, Mario Kart 8, Minecraft, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morale, and Mortal Kombat 11. The rest were Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Super Mario 3D World, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokémon Sword & Shield, and finally Sea of Thieves.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword first launched on the Wii back in 2011. An HD remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 16. But before the game launches on Friday, fans can play three older titles on Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo reminds players that Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can play three other games such as Legend of Zelda titles before Skyward Sword HD launches. The three games the original The Legend of Zelda on NES or Famicom in Japan, The Adventures of Link also on NES and Famicom, and the Super Nintendo’s and Super Famicom’s The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

This is What Sony Showed Off During the PlayStation State of Play on July 8, 2021

Sony held a State of Play on July 8, 2021. It showcased about 30 minutes of upcoming games for PlayStation 4, PS5, and PlayStation VR. Moss Book II, ArcadeGeddon PS5, Tribes of Mridgar, Fist: Forgeo in Shadow Torch, and Hunter’s Arena: Legends. There are also more games, such as Sifu, Jet: The Far Shore, Demon slayer: The Hinikami Chronicles, Lost Judgment, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, and even Deathloop.

Horizon: Forbidden West and the next God of War will be discussed at a later time this year. So these games were not present during the event. Stay tuned for more announcements.

Nintendo Announced a OLED Model Switch

New Nintendo Switch rumours have been surfacing the web ever since 2017. As it turns out, there is a new model releasing. This is the Nintendo Switch OLED Model.

The Nintendo Switch OLED has a larger screen at seven inches or 17.78 cm, a wider stand than the base Switch and Switch Lite, enhanced audio, 64 GB of storage, and a LAN port on the dock.

Nintendo Switch OLED will launch October 8 for $349.99 USD / CA$449.99. Not much else is known on this new model as of current. Check out Nintendo’s Official Website to find out more HERE.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Buys Returnal Developer Housemarque

Housemarque has developed games for PlayStation since the seventh generation with the PlayStation 3. They have developed games like Dead Nation and a remaster called Super Stardust HD. Another game they made recently released as a PS5 exclusive. This was Returnal.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has just announced that they have acquired the Finnish studio Housemarque. This is the first studio owned by Sony in the country. Housemarque will help create more games on the PlayStation platform.

It is the 30th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog Today

The day is June 23, 2021. That means it is the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog! The original Sonic the Hedgehog launched back on the SEGA Genesis (also known as the MegaDrive outside North America) on June 23, 1991. The game was a commercial success and brought onward more games for the next 30 games, even after SEGA became third-party publisher in the early 2000s.

One way to celebrate is to watch the Sonic 30th Symphony Orchestra later at 12pm / 3pm ET on YouTube or Twitch. It will be a live musical performance of music from Sonic the Hedgehog hames spanning from 30 years. Happy birthday Sonic!
