Best Selling Software and Hardware for the Month of April 2020 | NPD Group (US)

Mat Piscatella is a market researcher at the NPD Group. He tracks sales records for video game hardware and software. This will cover the best selling video game console and the top selling titles for the United States.

April 2020 sales report came out late this month. It shows that the Nintendo Switch was again the best selling platform in the US. Additionally, dollar sales have reached 160%, which is more than April of last year, 2019.

Nintendo Switch

Animal Crossing: New Horizons released back in March for the Nintendo Switch and was the best selling game on the console. This is followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Just Dance 2020 from Ubisoft. Furthermore in their respected order, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from Sora and BANDAI Namco, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokémon Sword, Square Enix/s Trials of Mana, and last up, Super Mario Party had all made it on the top 10 selling Switch titles.

Xbox ONE

Next up is Microsoft’s Xbox ONE; the 2019 remake of Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Remastered, and Take-Two Interactive’s and Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V made the top 3. Numerous other games also made the list. This includes titles such as Take-Two Interactive’s NBA 2K20, Capcom’s Resident Evil 3, Madden NFL 20 from EA Sports, Red Dead Redemption II, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order, and FIFA 20.

PlayStation 4

The last top 10 will cover best selling games on the Sony PlayStation 4. The first three include Final Fantasy VII: Remake from Square Enix, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Take-Two’s NBA 2K20. These games are followed by Grand Theft Auto V from Rockstar Games and Take-Two again, SIE Worldwide Studio’s MLB: The Show 20, Capcom’s Resident Evil 3, Predator: Hunting Grounds; EA’s Madden NFL 20, Atlus’ and SEGA’s Persona 5: Royal, and finally from Microsoft, Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition.

Nintendo Switch Outsold PlayStation 4 and Xbox ONE in North America in November 2019 Plus Software Sales | NPD’s

The NPD’s are in for North America. The Nintendo Switch was the best selling console in November. This means that the Switch has been outsold the Xbox ONE and PlayStation 4 for the last twelve months now. However, when next-gen consoles Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 launch holiday 2020, things might change.

“US NPD HW – Nintendo Switch was again the best-selling hardware platform of November and remains the best-selling platform of 2019.” – Mat Piscatella

Nintendo Switch Sold 41.67 Million SKU’s Worldwide

Nintendo held their quarterly investors meeting recently and the company has impressive news about the Switch and its software. Nintendo Switch hardware has now made 41.67 million SKU’s worldwide in sales, while its software has reached 246.01 million.

In the second quarter of FY 2019, the company also reported quarterly shipments. The Nintendo Switch reached 2.85 million SKU’s, and the Switch Lite shipped 1.95 million units. That equals 4.8 million for both Switch’s. In addition to console shipments, the software for last quarter made 35.87 million units.

There is another interesting feat about the Nintendo Switch. The console is really close to outselling the Xbox ONE worldwide shipments. CNBC estimated that Microsoft shipped around 46.9 million Xbox ONE consoles.

Xbox Scarlett is Coming Holiday 2020

Xbox Scarlett is Coming Holiday 2020

Microsoft had their E3 press conference earlier today. They talked about their next gen Xbox. It is Project Scarlett and is said to be four times as powerful as the Xbox One X. The architecture for Project Scarlett is said to get a resolution beyond 4K and run as high as 120 FPS. There will also be much faster load times; that is a good advantage a solid state drive has over a hard disk drive.

In addition to the new Xbox, a new Halo was announced to release along with Project Scarlett. Xbox Project Scarlett is slated for a holiday 2020 release. SO, there will be around 18 more months of waiting.
